Named after a railroad attorney, Thomas Jefferson Devine, the city has always been a weigh station for travelers -- first on a stagecoach line, then the railroad and now, Highway 35. Devine, Texas was created as a station on the International & Great Northern Rail Road in 1881.

There were scattered settlement dates from 1840's, as the Indian raids persisted until 1870's. Devine is a trade center for irrigated district of the Medina Valley, and a diversified agricultural region.

The City of Devine is now a major peanut shipping center, has nurseries, and extensive honey production. Divine has a municipal golf course, and a city swimming pool.

Bigfoot Wallace Museum
